Hey! I’m Hobie.
Yup, I’m the one-man-show behind Fraktal Kaps. I’m a 28-year-old mechanical engineer with a hobbyist and tinkering background, and a crapload of experience making stuff with my hands. I’ve done woodworking, fabrication, painting, graphic design, coding (kinda), electronics, computer modding, car modding, resin casting, and just about everything else I could find to do that would be sure to waste time and help me learn something new. If it involves a little bit of creativity, and a lot of working with my hands- then I’m all for it! I fully abide by the “be a little bit good at lots of things, and not an expert at anything” philosophy. I’ve lived in 3 different states, 6 different towns, and spent almost 2 years living aboard a sailboat cruising up and down the East Coast and the Northern Caribbean. When I’m not tinkering or making, I like to spend my time sailing, snowboarding, driving a bit too fast, or hanging out with my wonderful wife Paige, my infant daughter Adeline, and our doggo Lea.
I used to work for the most successful racing organization in the world as a mechanical design engineer to design state-of-the art racecar parts, but I’ve held many different types of jobs prior, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic I now make keycaps full-time! I got into resin casting in March of 2018, and once I worked out some of the kinks in my process, I dove in deep and never looked back. I had my first official sale in early August of 2018, and now I am working on expanding my personal projects into something bigger, with the hopes of being able to support myself doing something I love. Thanks for stopping by, and I look forward to you joining me on my journey!
